Star Trails Shot @ Jack and Jill

This image was shot this evening and is made up of 9 separate exposures @ 3 mins each under a full moon f4.5 ISO 100. I imported the images into bridge then stacked them using Dr Browns Stack'o'Matic CS4 script, tweaked the exposure and exported it.

I had been eager to try this for a while and I am really pleased with the results for a first attempt.

Jack and Jill Windmill

This is a Shot taken on Tuesday at about midnight of Jill of the Jack and Jill windmills on the South Down near Pycombe. It is a single exposure of 4 mins @ ISO 100 and f4.5. This is pretty much as it came out the camera except for I upped the exposure by 1/3 of a stop to grab a bit more from the foreground. Tuesday was a really clear night with an almost full moon lighting the scene from the right of this picture. The 11mm lens I used was set to infinity to capture the scene and some short star trails.

I also had a play with the picture in Nik silver effex in CS4 and quite liked the outcome.

Taken between the two piers on Brighton seafront looking towards west street, handheld for 2 seconds ,f.4.5 @ iso 100 then played with silver efex in CS4.

This is a shot of the moon I took last night @ 1/6s f.18 and ISO 100.

I had never tried to take a picture of the moon till last night and spotted this out my back window and decided to give it a go after experimenting with settings this was the best exposure. I then cropped the image in Lightroom. Its also worth noting that this was shot through double glazing that was not particularly clean and still came out pretty good.

Antiques shop in Brighton lanes

This was the first shot I ever tried to convert into black and white and I was pretty pleased with it. It's slightly blurred when blown up as it was hand held at about 1/2 second.

Brighton Marina light trails

Light trails in Brighton Marina, this was one of my first try's at night photography after spending lots of time looking at light trails on flickr.

Dark clouds over Devils Dyke

Just took this shot coming back over Devils Dyke at about 3pm today.

I saw the storm clouds building up and getting dark in the north and the sun shining bright behind me was creating a really cool light, so I pulled my truck over and took half a dozen shots while rested on the bonnet @ 1/30/s to add a bit of motion to the picture and this was the best one.

Tower Bridge, London, UK

This picture is probably my favorite so far, it is of the famous Tower Bridge in London.

I set up the tripod in the middle of the road on a traffic island on a busy evening, I can't remember the exact settings on the camera but looking at the star burst effect on the light's in the frame I would guess f18 - f22 and a 30 second exposure @ ISO 100.

First attempt at panning

This picture was one of my first attempts at panning to create motion blur, I had the camera in shutter priority set to 1/30th of a second @ ISO 100 and a wireless flash set up on a tripod to my right.

I am pretty pleased with the outcome, but I know it could be sharper with some more practice!

Light Orb/Light painting

This shot was taken standing in a stream that run's underneath a tunnel that run's under a motorway and was created with the camera on a tripod using a lockable cable release. the Orb was made by spinning a car sidelight bulb on a piece of wire attached to a 12v battery with a switch inline.

I set the camera going and then walked into the shot and began to spin the bulb around, once it was spinning smoothly I switched it on and slowly walked around the rock on the floor for 180 degrees, I then switched the bulb off and walked out of the shot.

Flower in a pub garden

This picture was taken in a pub garden while I was waiting to go to the church for the ceremony, 50mm prime lens - F 1.8 - ISO 100 - 1/2500 second

Homemade panoramic tripod head

This is my first attempt at a homemade tripod head, it is made from a wall plate strap available from most DIY sheds or builders merchants.

I basically got a spare tripod quick release plate replaced the bolt with an longer one and used one of the existing holes in the strap to fix it to the mount, then drilled some extra holes in the piece attached to the camera so adjustment can be made for different cameras and lenses.

I then offered the two pieces together and marked and drilled holes to fix them with washers between for smoother adjustment.

I then trimmed the bar attached to the camera so not to add unnecessary weight to it and tightened everything up with spanners and attached the camera using the original bolt removed from the mounting plate.

Here is a test 5 shot panorama taken in the garage.

Sweet Hill Barn Patcham

This shot was taken facing North West from the South Down's just outside Brighton. It was taken in almost complete darkness @ ISO 100/F5.6 for about 4 Min's with a 11-18mm super wide angle lens @ 11mm. The light on the building is a combination of light pollution from Brighton and the many street light's along the A27/A23 reflecting off the clouds. I was focused on the flint work around the door to try to keep the building and tree to the left as sharp as possible.

The image is not as sharp as I had hoped and would have benefited from a bit more exposure and then backing off in Photoshop to allow for more detail in the foreground.
